(Attention: Graphic Content) The devastating explosion of an oil pipeline on 18.10.1998 in Jesse in the Niger Delta killed more than 1000 people. Pipeline explosions occur again and again in the Niger Delta, usually resulting in numerous deaths and serious injuries, for example when oil thieves illegally tap the pipelines because of the numerous leaks in the insufficiently maintained pipelines or because attacks are carried out on the pipelines of foreign oil companies.
