2024-03-28 - 85 years ago: End of the Spanish Civil War
After the uprising of the garrisons in Spanish Morocco on July 17, 1936, civil war broke out in Spain between the Nationalist-Fascist troops under Francisco Franco and the Republicans, supported by international brigades. The civil war ended on March 28, 1939, with the entry of Nationalist troops into Madrid, and General Franco established himself as dictator. The massive support of Hitler and Mussolini is considered crucial to Franco's victory. The air raid by the German Condor Legion on the small Basque town of Guernika was made particularly famous by the painting of the same name by Pablo Picasso.
