2025-06-14 - 85 years ago Invasion of Paris (World War 2)
On June 14, 1940, the German Wehrmacht occupied without a fight the French capital Paris, from which the government and also many inhabitants had fled. Under the new prime minister, Marshal Philippe Pétain, the armistice was signed at Compiègne on June 22, 1940. The conquered part of France remained largely German occupied. The rest of France was left under conditions to Pétain's authoritarian regime, which settled in Vichy. The occupation lasted until August 25, 1944.
