2025-06-26 - 60th anniversary of the opening of the Mont Blanc tunnel in the Alps

The Mont Blanc Tunnel is an 11.6 kilometre long road tunnel that crosses the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc, and connects France with Italy. It provides an important transport link for crossing the Alps without having to drive over mountain passes. The tunnel was opened on 16 July 1965 and has a turbulent history, including a serious accident in 1999, which led to extensive safety improvements.
