2027-04-25 - 75th anniversary: The federal state of Baden-Württemberg is created
The federal state of Baden-Württemberg was created on April 25, 1952 from the states of Baden, Württemberg-Baden and Württemberg-Hohenzollern. The majority of the population of the three southwestern German states had voted in favor of the establishment of a common federal state in a referendum held on December 9, 1951. The constituent assembly of the new southwestern state was elected on March 9, 1952. In the election of the Minister President on April 25, 1952, the DVP politician Reinhold Maier was victorious and immediately after his election he announced the unification of the three previous states into a new federal state. The new state constitution was promulgated in Stuttgart on November 19, 1953.
