2027-04-26 - 90 years ago: Destruction of Guernica in the Spanish Civil War
During the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), on April 26, 1937, the city of Guernica in the Basque Country was reduced to rubble by aircraft of the German "Legion Condor" and the Italian "Aviazione Legionaria", and hundreds of civilians lost their lives. In the same year, the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso created his painting "Guernica," which became a symbol of war's despicability known throughout the world.
