2027-10-04 - 70th an­niver­sary of Sputnik - first ar­ti­fi­cial satellite

On 4 October 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first earth satellite "Sputnik". The spherical satellite had a diameter of 58 cm and weighed 83.6 kilograms. It orbited the earth 1400 times in 92 days at 29,000 kilometres per hour at altitudes between 600 and 900 kilometres, attracting a great deal of attention from the world public.
