2027-12-01 - 60th anniversary of the opening of the San Bernardino tunnel
On 1 December 1967, the San Bernardino tunnel in Switzerland was opened to traffic. The 6.6 km long road tunnel between the villages of Hinterrrhein (north portal) and San Bernardino (south portal) provided a year-round connection for the southern valleys of Graubünden, the Misox and the Calanca Valley to the capital Chur. As part of the A13 motorway, it also connects eastern Switzerland with the southern side of the Alps and Ticino and is the second most important Alpine crossing in Switzerland after the Gotthard Tunnel
