The seizure of power refers to the appointment of Adolf Hitler as Reich Chancellor by Reich President Paul von Hindenburg on January 30, 1933. The seizure of power describes the process of transformation from the existing democracy to a dictatorship, which the NSDAP pushed with all means. Decisive steps in the following months were the Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of the People and the State (Reichstag Fire Decree, February 28, 1933), the Enabling Act of March 24, 1933, and the Gleichschaltungsgesetz of March 31. In addition, there was ubiquitous propaganda such as swastika flags in the public streetscape, torchlight processions and massive marches.
