3-2 against Ukraine: the Dutch fight for a European Championship opening victory
Thanks in part to Wolfsburg's goal scorer Wout Weghorst, the Netherlands got off to a perfect start in the European Football Championship. The 28-year-old scored the first European Championship goal of his career on Sunday in front of 16,000 spectators in Amsterdam in a 3-2 (1-0) against Ukraine and celebrated a successful return to the big football stage after 2528 with the Oranje team Days. In an exciting game, Weghorst scored 2-0 in the 59th minute after Georginio Wijnaldum (52nd) had given Elftal the lead. Andrej Jarmolenko (75th) and Roman Yaremtschuk (79th) equalized again for Ukraine, but Denzel Dumfries (85th) let the Dutch cheer in the end.
