70 years since the first ascent of Mount Everest
The New Zealander Edmund Percival Hillary and his Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first people to climb the highest mountain in the world on May 29, 1953: at around 11:30 a.m. they were the first to reach the summit of the 8848 meter high Mount Everest.
