78th Venice Film Festival - Opening Ceremony

A radiant Penélope Cruz, next to her a relaxed-looking Pedro Almodóvar: Right at the opening, the 78th International Film Festival delivers the usual glamorous images of celebrities. The two Oscar winners presented their drama "Madres paralelas" on Wednesday evening at a gala in which Italian actor and director Roberto Benigni ("Life is Beautiful") was also honored with a Golden Lion for his life's work, opening the festival. In it, Cruz plays one of two women who become pregnant unplanned. Shortly before the birth of their daughters, they meet in a clinic, and from then on their lives remain closely connected.
