Adamo, Salvatore (geb. 01.11.1943)
The singer and songwriter Salvatore Adamo was born on 01.11.1943 in Comiso/Sicily and emigrated with his family to Belgium a few years later. The chansonnier with the unmistakable rough voice, who called himself just Adamo for many years, has sold more than 100 million records. In Germany, Adamo was better known as a pop singer, especially in the 70s and 80s, and was successful with titles such as "Gestatten Sie, Monsieur?" or "Es geht eine Träne auf Reisen". In his Belgian homeland and in neighbouring France, he always sang in the first league as a chansonnier. Over the years, his titles became more sophisticated, and he also became more musically concerned with political and social problems. Adamo, who originally dreamed of becoming a journalist, has two sons and has been married to a childhood friend since 1969.
