Bangkok has the longest place name in the world
Bangkok is a city of many superlatives. But few know that even the official name of the Thai mega-metropolis is a world record holder. The full name is "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udom Ratchaniwet Maha Sathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit". With its 168 Latin characters, the tongue twister is considered the longest place name in the world - and made it into the Guinness Book years ago. Abbreviated, most Thais simply call their capital "Krung Thep", which is generally translated as "City of Angels".
