"Bed-ins" by John and Yoko 55 years ago
It is one of the most bizarre peace demos in history. The legendary bed-in of Beatle John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono in Amsterdam 55 years ago. The prominent couple spent their honeymoon in front of journalists in Suite 902 of the Hilton Hotel on 24 March 1969 - as a statement against war. "Make love, not war!" becomes the couple's message and anthem. After seven days, John and Yoko leave their bed and hotel. They had not created world peace. But Amsterdam had given them a taste for it. Just a few months later, during a second bed-in at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada, Lennon wrote the song "Give Peace a Chance", which remains an anthem of the peace movement to this day.
