BGH to settle dispute over Tina Turner show (Archive)
She is considered one of the best lookalikes of the singer Tina Turner and is now a case for the Federal Court of Justice (BGH), not least because of this. Because Dorothea "Coco" Fletcher embodies the singer in the show "Simply The Best - The Tina Turner Story" and can be seen on advertising posters. But the original Turner (81) has nothing to do with the production and is taking action against the use of her name and "likeness," according to reports. She believes that viewers assumed she herself was depicted on the posters because of the resemblance between Fletcher and her. Turner sued the Bavarian tour organizer for injunctive relief and was proven right before the Cologne Regional Court. The Cologne Higher Regional Court, as the next instance, overturned the ruling. It gave more weight to artistic freedom than to the right to one's own image and name. However, because this legal issue had not been clarified in principle, the Higher Regional Court allowed an appeal to the Federal Court of Justice. Thus, the case in Karlsruhe goes into the next round.
