Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Shakira: Song rights as a billion-dollar business
Pop superstar Shakira, 43, has sold 100 percent of her song rights to the company Hipgnosis. "Welcome to the Hipgnosis family, Shakira," the British company wrote on Twitter on Wednesday (local time). Hipgnosis Songs Fund, led by Merck Mercuriadis, manages intellectual property and song rights.Common Music Group, part of Universal, had bought the rights to Bob Dylan's complete works, a total of 600 recordings, a few weeks ago for several hundred million dollars. And Hipgnosis announced the acquisition of 50 percent of the song rights of Canadian-American folk rock star Neil Young - as well as the acquisition of publishing rights of the former guitarist of the band Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham ("Go Your Own Way," "The Chain").
