Bronze statue honours rescue dog Tsunami
In September 2026, the Venezuelan city of Maracaibo unveiled a bronze statue honouring Tsunami, a Border Collie. After the earthquakes of 24 June, the dog searched the rubble in La Guaira alongside his handler Jorge Beens and, according to reports, helped locate more than 20 people alive. Tsunami had been rescued as an emaciated puppy on the streets of Caracas and later took part in missions in Turkey and Syria. The monument stands in Vereda del Lago park on the lakeshore.
