New York Brooklyn Bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge in New York connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn and is one of the most famous suspension bridges in the world. On 03.01.1870 construction work began with the preparation for the foundations of the towers. The 1054-meter-long bridge, which was initially called "East River Bridge", was constructed by the German engineer John (Johann) August Roebling. On May 24, 1883, the bridge was opened and today it is not only an important part of New York's transportation infrastructure but also a tourist magnet and landmark of the city. Even today, a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is impressive and an integral part of a stay in New York. On the higher sidewalk you cross the East River and can admire the impressive skyline of Manhattan.
