Fidel Castro, (13. August 1926 - 25. November 2016) , Cuban politician. Castro ruled socialist Cuba for almost half a century. After the revolutionary victory in 1959, the then 33-year-old lawyer became an icon of Latin America and leftist circles around the world. In 2008, Castro officially resigned and handed over power to his brother Raúl.
