Charles, Prince of Wales
Prince Charles, eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, was born on November 14, 1948. With the enthronement of his mother, Charles became heir to the throne in 1952 and the official inauguration as Prince of Wales took place on July 1, 1969. Charles' marriage to Diana Spencer, Queen of Hearts, failed. Shortly after the fairytale wedding in 1981 in St. Paul's Cathedral, he cheated on Diana with his childhood sweetheart Camilla Parker Bowles. In 1996 the couple divorced. A year later Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris. In 2005 the Crown Prince finally married Camilla. The nature lover and environmentalist, who, among other things, studied archeology, is politically active. He campaigns for human rights, fights against climate change and for the protection of endangered animals. With his "Prince's Trust" foundation, he supports disadvantaged young people in problem areas. Prince Charles paints, plays polo and is very interested in literature. He attends many official appointments at home and abroad with his wife Camilla. In private, the couple tend to go hiking or fishing, away from the glittering world. His two sons from his marriage to Lady Diana, William and Harry, are now both married and Prince Charles is a grandfather.
