Christopher Street Day - June 28
Christopher Street Day commemorates the resistance of homosexuals and transgender people to a police raid carried out on the night of June 27-28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn bar in New York's Christopher Street (Greenwich Village). On June 28, 1970, a year after gay and transgender people began speaking out against harassment and despotism in what became known as the Stonewall riots, the first Christopher Street Liberation Day March took place. Today, CSD parades and demonstrations against homophobia and for LGBTIQ rights are usually not held on the exact historical date, but on the weekends from June to August. In Germany there is a CSD in the sign of the rainbow in almost every major city, the largest in Cologne (Cologne Pride) and Berlin.
