Hillary Rodham Clinton, born 26 October 1947, was First Lady (1993-2001), New York State Senator (2001-2009) and United States Secretary of State (2009-2013). In the 2016 election, she ran as the first female presidential candidate, but was narrowly defeated by the Republican candidate, Donald Trump. She has been married to former President Bill Clinton since 1975. The couple has a daughter and two grandchildren.
