The empire as reflected in caricature
The political conditions and social contrasts in the German Empire offered caricaturists a broad field of activity. The best-known publications of this period include "Ulk, illustrirtes Wochenblatt für Humor und Satire" (since 1872), the social democratic satirical magazine "Der Wahre Jakob" (since 1879) and Simplicissismus, founded in 1896.
