Screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière dies at the age of 89
The French screenwriter and Oscar winner Jean-Claude Carrière ("Cyrano of Bergerac", "This Obscure Object of Desire") is dead. He died in Paris on Monday, the French news agency AFP reported on Tuesday night, citing daughter Kiara Carrière. Carrière was honoured by the European Film Academy for his life's work in 2016. Two years earlier, he had received an honorary Oscar. He wrote his first novel in 1957, numerous other works and around 60 screenplays followed. The author, who comes from the south of France, worked with famous directors such as Luis Buñuel and Milos Forman.
