German serial killer Heinrich Max Pommerenke was caught in 1959 and was imprisoned until his death at the end of 2008. The so called "Monster of the Black Forest" terrified an entire region in the late 1950s. On 22 October 1960, the then 23-year-old was sentenced by the Freiburg Regional Court to several life sentences for the murder of four women, several attempted murders and rapes as well as other crimes such as robbery.
