G7 Summit in Cornwall
With a comprehensive vaccination promise to poorer countries and common climate targets, the leading Western industrialised countries demonstrated new unity at their G7 summit. At the end of their three-day meeting in Cornwall in southern England, the heads of state and government also agreed on a tougher course towards China. However, there was also criticism of the decisions - especially the promise of at least one billion vaccine doses in the fight against the Corona pandemic by the middle of next year. The World Health Organisation (WHO) considers it insufficient. For the group of states, the summit in the resort town of Carbis Bay marked a new start after the era of US President Donald Trump, in which his isolationist policies brought the group to the brink of division. With its new President Joe Biden, the USA now wants to pull together again with the other major Western democracies.
