Tight-fitting full-body costumes, made-up faces, glitter: in the early 1970s, artists such as David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, T.Rex and Roxy Music brought a provocative, extravagant and equally self-deprecating style of music to Great Britain. Androgynous artists appear as if from a distant, futuristic galaxy, using the aesthetics of theater and playing with gender roles for the first time. Glam rock was here to stay.
