Grand Canyon National Park
The Grand Canyon National Park is one of the greatest natural wonders on earth. In millions of years, the Colorado River has created the breathtaking up to 1800 meters deep and a total of about 450 km long canyon. As early as 1893, the Grand Canyon was placed under protection as a forest reserve and in 1908 as a national monument. The area then received the status of a national park on February 26, 1919. 60 years later, in 1979, the Grand Canyon was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. About 5 million people visit the national park every year.
