Herero War in German South West Africa 1904-1908
Between 1904 and 1908, uprisings by the Herero and Nama in what was then German South West Africa were brutally crushed by German colonial troops. More than 65,000 of the 80,000 Herero and at least 10,000 of the 20,000 Nama fell victim to the campaign of extermination. Today, the mass murder is considered the first genocide of the 20th century.
