born on 19 January1921 in Fort Worth (Texas), died on 4 Feb ruary 1995 in Locarno (Switzerland). The crime stories writer Patricia Highsmith made the "talented Mr. Ripley" famous. She was particularly interested in the question of the "Whydunit". She wrote a total of 22 novels, many of which were filmed, as well as several short stories.
