Italy can continue to hope for the World Cup after their victory against Northern Ireland.
Four-time World Cup champions Italy kept alive their hopes of qualifying for their first World Cup since 2014. In the semi-final of the European playoffs, Gennaro Gattuso's team defeated Northern Ireland 2-0 (0-0) in Bergamo. Italy had failed to qualify for the World Cup in both 2018 and 2022. The goals were scored by Sandro Tonali (56th minute) of Newcastle United and Moise Kean (80th minute) of Fiorentina with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area. On Tuesday, Italy will play Bosnia and Herzegovina for one of the final spots at this summer's World Cup finals in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
