JD Vance

James David "JD" Vance (born August 2, 1984, in Middletown, Ohio, as James Donald Bowman) is an American author and politician of the Republican Party. He gained fame through his 2016 published book "Hillbilly Elegy," which explores the challenges faced by rural Americans from an autobiographical perspective. The book was adapted into a film under the same title in 2020. Since January 2023, Vance has been representing the state of Ohio in the U.S. Senate. On July 15, 2024, he was nominated by Donald Trump, who had sharply criticized him a few years earlier, as his vice-presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
