Kahlo, Frida (06.07.1907 - 13.07.1954)

The Mexican painter Frida Kahlo de Rivera was born on 6 July 1907 in Coyoacan (Mexico City) and died there on 13 July 1954. She is one of the most important representatives of popular surrealism. She is probably by far the best-known painter in Mexico. She began to paint when, after a bus accident in 1925, she had to spend a whole year lying in bed and wearing a full-body cast or steel corset. On 21 August 1929, she married the Mexican painter Diego Rivera, 21 years her senior, and the marriage lasted until their divorce on 6 November 1939. She married him a second time on 8 December 1940. In 1943, she and her husband were among the first teachers at the national art school "La Esmeralda". She expressed her mental and physical anguish in her paintings.
