Khrushchev, Nikita Sergeyevich (17.04.1894 – 11.09.1971)
Soviet politician Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev (April 17, 1894 - September 11, 1971) became head of the CPSU party after Stalin's death in 1953 and was head of government from 1958 to 1964. Khrushchev initiated the so-called "de-Stalinization" and initiated numerous reforms ("thaw"). The construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 and the Cuban Missile Crisis with the U.S. in 1962 took place during Khrushchev's term in office. Because of his unilateral political actions and the little noticeable success of his reforms, the politician, who was known for his impulsive appearances, lost many supporters and was deposed by the party leadership in October 1964.
