Manhattan Project (building atomic bomb)
The so-called "Manhattan Project", a military research project for the development and construction of nuclear weapons, started on August 13, 1942. In the secret laboratories in Los Alamos in the US state of New Mexico, the first atomic bomb was completed in 1945 under the scientific direction of the atomic physicist Julius Robert Oppenheimer and detonated at the Trinity Site test site on 16.07.1945. As early as August 6, 1945, it was used in the attack by the American Air Force on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later, on Aug. 9, the second atomic bomb, called "Fat Man," hit the city of Nagasaki. More than 200,000 people were killed instantly, and tens of thousands died later from injuries or nuclear radiation.
