Michelle O'Neill
Northern Irish politician Michelle O'Neill (47) from the Sinn Fein party has been First Minister since 3 February 204. This is the first time in the 103-year history of the part of the country that a Catholic politician has headed the regional government in Northern Ireland. However, O'Neill, who is seeking reunification with EU member Ireland, must govern together with the largest Protestant party, the DUP, which is in favour of political union with Great Britain. Emma Little-Pengelly, Deputy First Minister, is the equal deputy head of government.
