Elizabeth Short - Murder case
The body of aspiring actress Elizabeth Short - nicknamed "The Black Dahlia" - was found abused and completely severed at the waist in 1947. There were many suspects, plus numerous men who claimed to have committed the crime. De case ultimately remained unsolved, but inspired book writers, artists and filmmakers. There is even a melodic death metal band, The Black Dahlia Murder, named after the murder of Elizabeth Short.
