Mount Rushmore Memorial
On October 31, 1941, the U.S. national monument Mount Rushmore in South Dakota was completed. Between 1927 and 1941, 400 unemployed miners had blasted away nearly half a million tons of granite to carve the four colossal presidential heads into the south side of the mountain. The 18-foot-tall profiles of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln were the work of Gutson Borglum, who died, however, before the monument was completed. His son Lincoln continued the work with several hundred helpers. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
