Nazi Era - Auschwitz Trial opened in Frankfurt on the Main 1963
On December 20, 1963, the first trial of the camp management and SS supervisory personnel of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp began in Frankfurt am Main. At the sentencing on August 19 and 20, 1965, six defendants received life sentences, ten received prison terms of between three and a half and fourteen years, and one received a ten-year juvenile sentence. Three defendants were acquitted for lack of evidence. Further sentences were handed down at the second and third Auschwitz Trials (1965/66 and 1967/48, respectively).
