On 26 September 1980, the most serious act of terrorism of the post-war period to date took place in Germany. According to the current state of investigation, the right-wing extremist assassin Gundolf Köhler placed a homemade bomb in a wastebasket near an entrance to the Oktoberfest, killing twelve people and injuring 213, some of them seriously.
