Polanski, Roman
The Polish-French director Roman Polanski was born in Paris on 18 August 1933. His films are not light fare, whether "Rosemary's Baby", "Chinatown" or "The Pianist". His work deals with Satanism, violence and escape. In his private life, Polanski has endured and overcome severe blows of fate. But the past does not only catch up with Roman Polanski in his films. The image of the exceptional director and Oscar winner is tarnished. In 2018, the old master was expelled from the Oscar Academy after almost 50 years. The reason: Polanski has been wanted by the police in the USA for 40 years for sexual abuse of a minor. He pleaded guilty at the time and spent around 42 days in pre-trial detention in the USA. However, fearing a heavy prison sentence, he fled and settled in Paris. That was in 1977. He continued filming in Europe. He has been married to the French actress Emmanuelle Seigner since 1989.
