Prince Philip: The man by the Queen's side

Prince Philip had been "the man at the Queen's side" since Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. He often appeared in uniform, sometimes he stood out for his biting humor and weird jokes. In earlier years he also complained about his "supporting role". Nevertheless, he was always considered an important pillar of the Queen, with whom he had been married since 1947. Now Philip has died at the age of 99. His official titles were Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich. He was born as Prince of Greece and Denmark on June 10, 1921 on the Greek island of Corfu. He was a scion of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg family, and his family tree is teeming with Germans. Philip attended the Salem elite school in southern Germany for a year and spoke good German.
