Russell, Bertrand (18.05.1872 - 02-02-1970)
Bertrand Earl of Russell (May 18, 1872 - February 2, 1970) was a British philosopher. Mathematician and writer. He is considered one of the fathers of analytic philosophy. Together with A. N. Whitehead he published the "Principia Mathematica", one of the most important works of the 20th century on the foundations of mathematics. In 1950 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Russell also became one of the pioneers of the peace movement as a world-renowned activist for peace and disarmament. He organized countless mass protests, sit-ins and citizens' initiatives and was the driving force behind the Russell-Einstein Manifesto. Among his best-known actions was the 1967 "Vietnam Tribunal" in Stockholm.
