Russia October Revolution 1917
On November 7, 1917, with the attack on the Winter Palace, the seat of the bourgeois "Provisional Government," the Russian October Revolution (October 25 by the Julian calendar) began. The violent seizure of power by the communist Bolsheviks led by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin ended the dual rule of the socialist-liberal Provisional Government under Alexander Kerensky and the Petrograd Soviet that had emerged after the February Revolution. The Bolsheviks' successful struggle in the civil war of the following years led to the establishment of a new state, the Soviet Union, in 1922.
