Damage and missing persons after storms in Switzer­land

After heavy storms, landslides and flooding caused considerable damage in Switzerland. There was hardly any hope for three missing people, a young couple and an elderly woman. Their homes were destroyed in a landslide in the Misoxtal valley in Graubünden on Friday (21.06.2024). "When we look at the burial sites with the huge masses of rubble, the chances of survival are relatively slim," said a police spokesperson. The railway line from Visp to Zermatt was partially damaged and closed. Roads were also washed out and a 200 metre stretch of the A13 motorway was destroyed.
