Switzerland beat Turkey 3:1
Double goal scorer Xherdan Shaqiri has nourished Switzerland's hopes of reaching the last 16 of the European Football Championship and finally knocked Turkey out of the tournament. The former Munich player deservedly defeated the Turks 3:1 (2:0) in Baku on Sunday, with 20,000 fans cheering him on. Ex-Frankfurt player Haris Seferovic gave the much-improved Switzerland the lead in the 6th minute, before Shaqiri (26th/68th) scored twice to put the game beyond doubt. Irfan Can Kahveci (62nd) scored the first goal for Turkey at this European Championship, but was unable to prevent the 2008 semi-finalists' disgraceful exit as group losers with no points.
