Sirikit, Königin von Thailand
Queen Sirikit, born 12.08.1932, is the widow of the Thai King Bhumibol (d. 13.10.2016). As a schoolgirl in Lausanne (Switzerland), Princess Sirikit met her future husband. The wedding took place in Bangkok on 28 April 1950, followed by the official accession on 5 May 1950 and Sirikit became Queen. The couple had four children, three daughters and a son, now King Vajiralongkorn. In the 1950s and 1960s, Queen Sirikit was a popular subject in fashion and entertainment magazines because of her style and attractiveness. Vanity Fair praised her as "Asia's Jackie Kennedy". Sirikit is held in high esteem and revered in her country for her social commitment, among other things. Her birthday is an official holiday today. Mother's Day is also celebrated on the same day.
