North Sea flood Hamburg 1962
On the night of February 17, 1962, a massive storm surge swept across northern Germany, causing billions of dollars in damage. In Hamburg alone, more than 300 people lost their lives and tens of thousands were left homeless. The Wilhelmsburg district was particularly affected. The storm surge was triggered by the Vincinette low-pressure system, which moved from the southern Arctic Ocean toward the German Bight.
