Die Olympischen Spiele 1936 in Berlin waren eine groß angelegte Propagandaveranstaltung des NS-Regimes, das die Spiele nutzte, um Stärke und Einheit nach außen zu demonstrieren. Die Stadt war reich geschmückt, moderne Sportstätten wie das Olympiastadion beeindruckten, und der reibungslose Ablauf sowie die Einführung des olympischen Fackellaufs hinterließen weltweit Eindruck. Gleichzeitig wurden die Spiele von der systematischen Diskriminierung der jüdischen Bevölkerung überschattet, die das Regime während der Spiele zeitweise kaschierte, um internationale Kritik zu vermeiden.
